The Best Arcade Games Ever

Saturday, October 23rd, 2010

Arcades have been a mainstay in children’s lives since the beginning of the 1980′s. From gorillas with barrels to futuristic computer programs riding lighted cycles, young adults have dreamed of travelling to these lands and being a part of all the action just by the smashing of some buttons and the movements of joysticks. Below is a just a sample of some of the greatest arcade games to have ever existed.

The main concept or idea of an Italian plumber scaling a construction site to rescue a damsel in distress from the grip of a monster gorilla is completely absurd. The actions required to rescue this woman, however, have tantalized the world for over three decades and have cost youngsters and adults millions of dollars in quarters. This game also contributed to the introduction of Mario to the world. This plumber revolutionized home video games, spawned a vast array of video games and merchandise and destroyed good grades across the world because of countless hours of game play. A pizza shaped icon with a slice missing being chased by ghosts while trying to eat up all of the pellets in a maze. The first sentence explains everything in describing the greatest arcade game in the history of the world and the most iconic character the video game industry has ever seen. Merchandise, spin off games and countless renditions have stapled this as the cornerstone of how to build and market a game to the public.

The controls of the hero within this game were the biggest innovation to video games at the time of its release. There was no buttons and only two joysticks to work with. One joystick walked you around the entire platform while the other joystick fired your weapon at robots out to kill you. The whole time during this massive catastrophe off killing every robot imaginable, you had to rescue hostages from early demise. This game was incredibly hard and found that you would be more excited about surviving a level rather than passing it. Aliens attacking Earth. The only hope is a single ship with a single gun to destroy the enemy and restore peace to this planet. Simple premises are nice in video games and this was the cream of the crop. This game alone spawned the “shoot-em up” genre and set the bar high in doing it as well.

Jigsaw puzzle is not only a game but it has lots of educational value as well. These puzzles are appropriate choice for all young children at all ages. Jigsaw puzzle is a game that requires all essential skills of a child. This game is a great source to enhance thinking and various other abilities like coordination and developing concentration in a child. The child learns the art of focusing on different matters plus it enhances the ability of thinking and problem solving in a child. So, jigsaw puzzle is a great way to enhance the thinking process in a child.

This game has great value for little babies as well. Probably you would be astonished but believe me it’s a good choice for your little babies as well. With the help of these game small kids learn to understand the shapes of various objects as well as their position when putting into a jigsaw puzzle to complete the task. At that level these puzzles are especially designed keeping in mind the factor of simplicity because very small kids are not capable of handling difficult tasks. However, simple and easy tasks help the child to refine his recognition power as well as many other skills.

Furthermore, at early level of jigsaw puzzle the child learns the art of putting the piece at right place. In early stages he learns the art of fitting the right piece. Here I also want to mention something more about typical childhood puzzles. Childhood puzzles are especially designed keeping in mind the ease and convenience for a child. These are usually wooden with spaces where the pieces are required to fit in order to complete the picture. For example if there is a street scene where different cars are moving then the puzzle will be designed with separate wooden pieces properly cut in car and truck shapes to offer convenience to a child. The child will simply sort out the piece and put it in right place. However, even in very basic and early stages, adult guidance will be required to carry out the task efficiently.
